Throughout his sixty or sum stories he never really had one set of plot or characters, always changing it to fit the mood of the story. All the stories do take place in the same world though. His books eventually made the one book, The Chulthu Mythos. It was a combination of some of his best works, some of which included The Call Of Chulthu. All of his stories had taken place in the same world, each of them stating the Necronomicon in them. With each story mentioning this book and many others like it must mean it is in the same world. The books each have something weird happen to the protagonist, either they meet a interdenominational being, or a sea creature that has a devote group of followers. It always has to do with either space or Gothic ideas. This is what makes these stories so good, each one of them is different, you can never find two the same. The characters are always mid-aged men, usually some sort of professor or a normal person, but they are never the same in each story. Each time you read about what is happening to that person you are interested instantly. It gets real interesting and you get to learn more about the character, even though it is someone else.
Themes and Symbols
In H.P. Lovecraft's tales there is always one recurring theme, and that is too creep you out. The theme is more Gothic and eldritch, or outer space horror. Each one of his books either has to do with horror, outer space, or darkness. Sometimes his stories make you feel grim and uncomfortable, as they are made to make you feel this way. Each one of his books is interesting cause of the reoccurring theme but he seems to be able to make it feel different each time. The stories are all different but the theme is the same. Now, H.P. Lovecraft didn't put any symbols really into his stories, he made important themes and symbols himself. He started the eldritch genre and made symbols like The Necronomicon and Chuthlu. He did a lot in his stories to encourage the continuous reading of his tales. He focused on making the reader wonder what was going on in the story. He makes you feel sad for the main character of that tale. His tales sometimes even makes the main character go mad, which is an interesting perspective as you read it. The stories include everything from giant clouds of gas to little goblins, but not fantasy like. He also tried his hand writing classic horror with his own twists, those stories included ones like The Reanimator and some others. He made those based off common Gothic tales, but made it space oriented. These are some of the themes and symbols found in H.P. Lovecraft's tales.
