H.P. Lovecraft was an interesting man. H.P. Lovecraft was born on August 20, 1890 in Providence, Rhode Island. He loved writing as a kid, always writing and trying new things. When he was young he went to Hope High School in Rhode Island and went to college somewhere in Rhode Island as well. He had a tough childhood as his father, Whipple Van Buren Phillips, went to the hospital. Lovecraft recalled Whipple saying "strange things" at times before he went there. His father died from a stroke in the hospital. Lovecraft as a kid was always afraid of the dark, when he was five, his Whipple forced him to walk through a few dark rooms. This made him even more fearful and went on to his earlier literature to have influence of darkness. Also when he was in high school he started to enjoy learning about astronomy, the study of space and stars. This influenced his later works again with themes of the unknown. Lovecraft loved the idea of the unknown and it reflects in a lot of his earlier works as well. Some of his earlier works include rewrites of The Odyssey and other mythological tales into short poems that restate what happens but just in a different type of writing. During Lovecraft's late life he was barely making it, he had to take up a editing job just to make ends meet. Sadly Lovecraft died of cancer on March 15, 1937. He left behind more then sixty short poems and stories. Lovecraft has become more popular now then he did when he was writing his stories. As his stories were just part of a magazine no one really cared about. He has grown in fame tremendously in the last eighty-one years after his death. Now he has games, books, and even movies that are based off of his work. He resembles all of his characters he writes, wanting to know the things the people he wrote saw.
